The city centre of Le Havre benefits from the attraction created by the docks on the city-port interface area directly related to effecient transport services (train station, tram, etc.); the service centre, shops and services, and the Naval Academy campus of Le Havre. A marina has been developed in the Vauban dock, canoeing is practised in the La Barre dock, dinghy sailing in the Dock of Commerce, and recreational activities such as wakeboarding are being tested in Vatine basin. In addition to sailing activities proposed by Le Havre sailing clubs, new, more urban sports and leisure practices are being developed.
A concept of a sailing stadium for water sports with access as quick and easy as that the use of a gym could enhance the advantages of the city port docks (4,000 service jobs within a radius of 500m, more 10,000 students nearby). This would complete the existing offer and federate water-related practices in urban areas. Practising water sports would be much easier compared with the more cumbersome logistics associated with sailing at sea (which requires several hours availability), and would help diversify the leisure sports offer. The activities would showcase the new relations with the warter that the city wishes to develop.
